You may not have all the pieces of the puzzle figured out yet. We just knew we wanted to get going. That’s okay. We’ll walk with you and help you put them together.

HERE ARE THE FIRST 3 STEPS

1. Pray and Talk with Your Church

2. Find your fit by talking to a mission coach

3. Talk to people in the nation where you want to serve

Technology today allows people around the world to be in touch! The best way to get a feel for how you could fit somewhere overseas is by taking a visit. The next best way is to personally talk with the team you’ll serve along side. You can do that through Skype, Vonage, and email.

ONCE YOU FIND YOUR FIT, THEN

4. Fill out an application

The application can seem like a lot of paper work, but it serves an important purpose of helping our teams get to know you better. In the application you’ll find sections that include questions about: doctrine, your history and testimony, references, and psychological assessments.

5. Go to orientation

Orientations are held in March, June, and October. It’s a week to continue our journey of getting to know each other, learn more about UWM’s visions and values, and get the tools you’ll need to raise support and grow as a missionary. After filling out an application then participants are sent an invitation to attend one of the candidate orientations.

6. Be appointed by the mission agency!

During orientation week there is a ceremony where you are officially appointed as a missionary!

ONCE YOU ARE A MISSIONARY YOU WILL

7. Start raising support

The time it takes to raise support depends on the relationships you have with your church and the people in your life. If you’ve been involved in ministry and have a church who is backing you, then raising support can go quickly. During orientation we provide training to help you raise support and then follow-up with you often with continual coaching through the whole process.

8. Get pre-field training

Pre-field training is crucial to not only help you survive in another culture, but to help you thrive in ministry. Once an appointee has raised sufficient funds they are ready to attend the Center for Inter-cultural Training.

9. Work out the final details!

After your training and your funds are in place, then you are ready to pack your bags. It’s time to make sure you have your visa, your shots, your physicals, and your plane tickets. You’re ready to join your team waiting for you!

10. GO!!!
