The Democratic Republic of Congo: Project ID # 63604

Partnership_Congo_Initiative_SmallestPartner: The Congo Initiative

Description: Africa’s deeply troubled and broken heart, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is today beginning to emerge from 8 years of brutal civil war (often described as Africa’s first World War), four decades of misrule, and the total collapse of its economy and civil society. The second largest nation in Africa, and abundantly endowed with agricultural, mineral, hydroelectric and other resources, DRC is without question the most strategic country on that continent. Its choices, direction and future will significantly influence the religious, economic, and political outlook of much of the rest of Africa. Imagine the challenges of living and raising a family in a country the size of Western Europe — a country with only 50 miles of paved roads. What does hope look like for a 50-year old who has known only how to survive under oppressive colonialism, evil dictatorship, and devastating civil war? How do you ask an 18-year old former child soldier to “dream better, and dream big” when his home is burned to the ground, his father and brothers massacred, and there are no schools to teach new thinking, new skills?

Central/West Cuba: Project ID # 63725

Partnership_Pic_Training_Cubans_SmallerPartner: Not listed for security purposes.

Description: Our international partner’s strategy is to plant mission bases in each of the fourteen provinces from which a cell-group style house church planting movement will grow. The rehabilitation of the national training and conference center provides a place for all evangelical denomination groups to meet in mass for training, conferences, and fellowship… this is the only facility on the island of this type. In addition, for any movement to be sustainable preparation of senior leadership is essential. To prepare future, senior leadership for the island formal theological training studies are provided. This requires North American partners to consider underwriting training, transportation and lodging for these new leaders. Due to the lack of resources and materials many churches are literally in ruins therefore North American partner opportunities surrounding reconstruction is much needed.

Investment Opportunities:

Rehabilitation of the national training and conference center

Formal theological training for Cuban leaders

Rehabilitation of dilapidated church buildings and structures

Senegal Urban/Beacon of Hope: Project ID # 63641

Partnership_Pic_BOH_Project_SmallerPartner: United World Mission Missionaries at Beacon of Hope

Description: In 1973, United World Mission received a 30-year lease for the country estate of the former colonial governor. Dormitories were built along with a dining hall and the Home of Hope, an orphanage for Senegalese children was established. Over the years, however, ministry changed. The orphanage closed and the site became a center for children’s ministries. Its apartments served as housing for the missionary community and the property was renamed the Beacon of Hope.
As the Senegalese church grew a great need arose to provide a central gathering place where multiple layers of training and equipping could take place as well as conferences for the national church. The dormitories allowed believers from the countryside to attend multi-day training events at an affordable price. The dining hall became a conference room. It soon became clear that no other facility like the Beacon of Hope exists for evangelicals in the city and that it has a key role to play.
In a typical year, the BOH now hosts a dozen major conferences, such as the annual meeting of the Evangelical Alliance or the Geneva Bible Institute’s two weeks of short courses for Senegalese leaders. In addition over twenty-five church outings or mission meetings take place annually, numerous missionary families and visiting teams come for short stays and various local believers find a place for personal spiritual retreat.

Investment Opportunities:

Completion of the construction of a new structure which will contain a contextual discipleship initiative for Senegalese believers from both rural and urban areas of the country.

Support of the Institut de Theologie Evangelique du Senegal, Bible school for church leaders.

Establish commercial revenue-generating capacity which will allow the Beacon of Hope training center to be self sustaining and self funded thus serving as a model to the whole Senegalese Evangelical community of how this can be done. This revenue stream will permit the training center to remain affordable to national leadership. With our prime location on a major road, we envision a storefront that will provide rental income.

Continued expansion and development of the present structures to accommodate the high demand for classroom/meeting space as well as lodging facilities to serve the growing Senegalese Evangelical community at all levels.

Vietnam: Project ID # 63542

Partnership_Pic_Vietnam_Project_SmallerPartner: Not listed for security purposes

Description: Since 2002 our national partner has seen rapid church growth due to well developed training and committed church planter/evangelists. These key leaders make a living from being farmers and raise animals. When funding is available they are able to leave their farms and to regions where the gospel has not been taken. There are roughly 45 minority groups and our international partner is working in 13 of them.

Investment Opportunities:

Funding church planter/evangelists as they take the gospel to other unreached people groups

Development and construction of a central office for this movement in Danang

Training funds which allow rural leaders to attend and receive additional encouragement and training

Nepal: Project ID #63580

Partnership_Pic_Nepal_Project_SmallerPartner: Not listed for security purposes

Description: Half of the people in Nepal live in remote mountain villages without electricity or roads. News and entertainment come by word-of-mouth plus battery-powered transister radios tuned to the national AM station or local FM stations. Over 90% of these people have never heard of Jesus. We propose a multi-pronged audio distribution project to reach and touch the hearts of these millions of isolated people with the Gospel via compelling audio programs combined with strong follow-up. Three types of media will be employed: 1. Radio broadcasts on FM stations; 2. Portable MP3 players with built-in speakers for group listening; 3. Postal media (ie., correspondence courses, sending evangelism and discipleship materials such as Bibles, audio cassettes and CDs) to follow-up dedicated listeners

Our 10-hour “True Stories and Songs” audio program has already been produced in the national language and distributed via portable audio players given to village groups in selected areas of the country. People’s response to the pilot program has been very positive, with reports of listeners so eager to hear all 29 episodes from Creation to the Cross to the formation of the Church that they stay up all night to hear all 10 hours instead of waiting for weekly gatherings. This project aims to scale up the pilot project to a level that will penetrate millions, not just thousands, of Nepali villagers.

Investment Opportunities:
Broadcast air time on 4 regional FM stations for 30 weekly episodes

70 digital audio players for dedicated listening groups in villages

Postage for correspondence courses, Bibles, audio CDs

Ten regional seeker and disciple-maker events
