007 Mission Possible

Our Kids Camp theme was "007 Mission Possible."  We spent our week at camp preparing our kids for their own Mission Assignment in Soweto, a "new" slum on the far NE side of the city. The kids learned how to share the good news of God’s love, and memorized ten Bible verses. In our “World Affairs Center” we heard stories about the persecuted church in China, Russia, Vietnam, and Pakistan. In Tools and Technical Device Development we made "tools" for sharing the gospel, and gifts for the families we would visit in Soweto.

On Saturday we took a bus to Club House, a community outreach center.  From there we divided into groups of three kids and one adult and went visiting in the homes of ten of the children who are sponsored by the Club House Ministry.

"Barbies" is the street name kids from the east side of the city call kids raised on the west side of the city (in relative wealth and ease). Truly, this trip into Soweto was a cross cultural experience for most of my Mamlaka kids. I overheard one of my girls say, "Their whole house is smaller than my bedroom." The children carried gifts of food (sugar, flour, rice etc), crafts they had made, and were encouraged to share about what they had been learning at camp with the family they visited. Some sang songs, others shared Bible verses, others prayed for the family, and one group led their hostess to Christ!
