Play Day and the Jesus Film

We hosted another special gathering for the talibé boys with whom we work. This time we invited them to come for a "Play Day" while we had the help of a short-term mission team from North Way Community Church . We planned several activities for the boys to choose from, including soccer, basketball, drawing and coloring, puzzles and viewing the Jesus film. I was concerned that some of their teachers might be opposed to the film being one of the options, so Antoinette and I went to personally invite the teachers and explain that we would show the film in one of the conference rooms, but it would be entirely up to the boys to choose whether to watch it or not. I stressed that I wanted to be aboveboard in our relationship with them and that we respected their authority over the education of their students, so that they could forbid their boys to come, or counsel them not to view the film, if they were concerned with what it teaches. They listened carefully, but Antoinette and I didn't know what to expect÷up to that point, only one teacher had given us permission to show his students the Jesus film.

But when the day dawned, lo and behold, we welcomed around 200 boys! And HALF of them were glued to the screen of the Jesus film, fully engrossed in every word! We were so thankful!
