Reconciliation
Our
main speaker at church was Evangelist Antoine Rutayisire from
Rwanda. He has paid a high price to the ethnic hatred, seeing
his father killed before his eyes, being stripped of his University
position and, during the genocide, losing more than 10 family
members. With his wife they took in several orphans. In the
ensuing years he became involved in the reconciliation movement.
"How
could it be that in a country where over 90% of the people
go to Church we could suffer genocide and the death of over
one million people?" Antoine
Rutayisire
He
struggled with God's mandate to forgive and received the strength
to forgive those who had wronged him so deeply. He traveled
the whole country as Vice-President of the 'National Commission
on Reconciliation' and, in later years, was given the opportunity
to speak to members of the European Commission. He challenged
us to be reconciled to God, to ourselves and to those close
to us, to be instruments of reconciliation in society and
to embrace the mandate to be reconcilers.
