China

China is home to the largest population on the planet. Our workers are developing two paths so that each will produce lasting fruit among major people blocks: the mega-city resident and the minority people groups.

With a massive urbanization movement under way China is always changing. Its goal is to develop a minimum of twenty cities, which will be home to more than 20 million residents each. With

this urbanization movement comes constant change so a flexible strategy with a consistent partner is a must. Our city team, which is developing partnership with the house church movement and expatriate workers, is beginning to show signs of progress. This partnership creates opportunities for training and equipping of national believers to reach into every neighborhood of the province.

Besides reaching mega-cities there are also great needs among minority groups, which are spread out across vast territories of China. With more than 250 million minority peoples our village team is working with our house church partnerships to mobilize believers for cross-cultural work. Our strategy is not to by-pass the resident local house church but rather equips and mobilizes what God has already initiated, sustained and multiplied.

United World Mission is actively working to field additional personal into this country.

We have made our home in China's developing South West region.  This area remains largely untouched by the church, and the society reflects clearly a void of love or hope for anything beyond immediate material gain.  We came to United World Mission because we were looking for an organization with a strong vision for ministry coupled with a strong vision for the health of the individual - as a result, we feel we are ministered to personally, in addition to the support in our roles.  Our strong desire is to see the vacancy of local Church leadership filled and envisioned allowing the body to reproduce healthy vibrant churches until every individual in our region is within walking distance of a fellowship.  We also long to see locals trained in cross cultural ministry able to reach the numerous minority groups scattered throughout the countryside.

I guess we both were introduced to missions work through our parents. Her parents were constantly on the backside of a horse racetrack working with the migrant workers, and my dad dragged me around from the age of 10 to do short term mission trips all over the world! Around the age of 17 I figured I could become a missions pilot in a remote area somewhere since I didn't like to get in front of people. Things began to change as far as vision when I just happened to run into some guys in South Africa that turned me onto unreached people groups.

China is about to break loose! I do not think there are too many fields as ripe as China is for a harvest. You can just throw a stone from anywhere in southwest China and you will be in an unreached people group area. What better place to throw yourself into His work.its gonna happen.the question is are you going be a part of it or are you gonna sit there?

I worked full time in the corporate office of Averitt Express as a Cargo Claims Investigator. My wife was a full time student at Tennessee Tech University. We were both called into missions and after we were married in 2000 we began to look for a good sending agency. We chose to work with United World Mission because of its Church Planting philosophy. We appreciated their commitment to seeing a church in every town, village, and neighborhood as well as their concern for our individual well-being and growth. We feel that God called us to help facilitate strong indigenous leadership among the Chinese and other ethnic minorities. We arrived in China recently and we are currently in language school. Our plan is to study language for approximately 3 years to become fluent, after which we plan to work with nationals to help facilitate leadership training.

I was raised in Virginia Beach, while my wife lived her earliest years in Alabama before moving to Pennsylvania for the majority of her schooling. She attended Penn State University , and I went to the University of Virginia.  I also received a Masters of Divinity degree from Regent University in Virginia Beach; meanwhile she obtained a certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

We first got to know each other when a mutual friend introduced us because she knew we were both going on short-term trips to Asia . We spoke on the phone and immediately found romantic interest and were later married in May of 2003.

We've just moved to our new home in Asia and we'll be spending time learning the language. In the coming years, we hope to get involved in the training of house church leaders. Our prayer is that God draws us nearer to Him each day.
