Hungary

Hungary has a long and significant history of evangelism. Zealous Hungarians who had gone out to evangelize and plant churches planted many older churches, in other central European countries. Even today, Hungarians have been involved in evangelism in other countries of the world. For Hungary itself, churches are growing in their enthusiasm and support of church planting. Since 1997, the resident United World Mission team has worked with mission agencies and local churches to envision, train and mentor church planters. The goal is a church within reach of every one of the 10 million Hungarians within Hungary and the nearly 4 million residing outside of Hungary in other Central European countries.

United World Mission is actively working to field additional personal into this country.

Personal Website

We are originally from Wisconsin and have served in Central and Eastern Europe for the last 13 years. We first served in Romania for 5 years. Romania was the place where we cut our teeth, learning the trade of engaging and training church planters. When the Romanians where doing the ministry better than we were, we knew it was time to get out of their way! We moved our base to Hungary and, at present, work to mobilize and mentor church planters in Hungary and in other Central and Eastern countries where UWM does not have a team.

I (Steve) call myself a church planter developer. Martha is a homemaker. We are involved in the lives of people who win others to Christ. By investing in people who reach out to others, we help Central and Eastern Europeans reach their nations. Some of them we help go out to other nations. I like being with leaders from all walks of life, helping those leaders to new levels of their vision and ministry. I would rather make other people into leaders and follow them as opposed to leading them on my own.

I (David) was a denominational district church planting director working in the USA. Marian was a secretary in an attorney's office. Ministry and life were going well, then God called us to overseas church planting ministry. It was a steep learning curve to embrace new challenges, to adapt to a new culture and to minister cross culturally. God is good and He has helped us to follow His leading in our lives. We are based out of Budapest, Hungary where I serve with The Alliance for Saturation Church Planting and consult for Leadership Multiplication in that ministry. Marian serves as the secretary for the Superintendent and Principle for The International Christian School of Budapest.

Hannah

After growing up in a family that primarily ministered to people with disabilities, I decided that going to college to become a special education teacher would be my fit. God continued to grow my heart towards people with special needs, but he also started developing my heart in the area of international missions. I had the opportunity to go on a few short term mission trips with my university, one of which was to Budapest, Hungary. The Hungary team I was a part of brought testing materials to the International Christian School of Budapest. We tested students who were struggling in school and were able to offer insight into the needs of the students. I returned to the states to teach, however God was not done at the school or in my heart. Through a variety of circumstances God began to direct me back to ICSB as well as bring additional students to the school that could use my help. He also directed me to join United World Mission as a part of their team to reach the world around us. God’s presence remains evident as He continues to merge my life with the work that is happening in Hungary.
