Slovenia

In the late 90's, working from Hungary, United World Mission's regional team began to build relationships with church planters and pastors in Slovenia. In June 2001 our first cross-cultural worker was fielded and now lives in the capital, Ljubljana. Initial activity began by assisting church planters to contact unbelievers by teaching English as Second Language classes, Christian concerts in Slovene and participating in local outreaches & worship services. In 2003, a team calling themselves "Barnabas for Church Planting in Slovenia," consisting of a Slovene church planter, a Bulgarian diplomat and United World Mission's Todd Hunnicutt was formed to begin church planter training. The main foci now are research of the Slovene church and the Slovene nation, church planter training, cultivating unity in the body of Christ in Slovenia and ongoing building of relationships with church leaders. United World Mission's goal in Slovenia will be accomplished when Slovenes are training Slovenes so that a church planting movement is underway.

United World Mission is actively working to regionally focused individuals with specialized backgrounds into this country, as well as developing needed partnerships to complete field projects.

Todd & Sarah

Child: Lili

After serving six months in Albania in 1996, we embarked on a process of discovering God's will for our lives; a long, 5-year process. After visiting such varied places as Cambodia, China and Turkey, we heard about the Alliance for Saturation Church Planting and fell in love with the vision to reach a whole nation. Various missionaries told them that United World Mission was the mission most aligned with the Alliance values and vision and we now serve with United World Mission. We felt God's clear call to a task, and the place was simply the location with the most need.

We are helping to make church planting a topic in Slovenia, through casting vision providing training, gathering church planters from all over the country, etc. We also have a deep heart for the unity of the Body of Christ, and try to bring together Christians, facilitating prayer meetings, a day for leaders to share ideas, the church planter round table, missionary events.

Benjamin & Janis

Kids: Elijah, Hannah, Samuel & Ariel

We have been serving in Slovenia since 2004. The Lord directed our path to Slovenia as Benjamin came to US to study the Bible, wanting to return to his native Slovenia as a missionary, and Janis herself prayed for a mission field to go to. Our desire is to bring the Word of God to this former communist and predominantly Catholic country. With only about 1000 believers among 2 million, Slovenia is rather un-evangelized.

With just over 25 churches/Bible groups in the country, we are working to start a new home church in an area that has no evangelical presence. Additionally, with our kids involved in the government school system, there is another venue for outreach within the town. Beyond our region, we are involved in promoting church planting, evangelism, and equipping the believers in the Word.
